My Journey

First impressions – Hotels

We arrived in Singapore very early. We decided to calmly deal with the metro, get to the desired station, find our first hotel and explore the surroundings before checking in. In the metro (they call it SMRT) everything is very simple and clear, the abundance of diagrams and explanatory inscriptions helps a lot.

After buying two EZ-Link cards (metro passes, buses, and in general there are many places where it can be useful), we decided to immediately deal with the machines for replenishing the balance of cards. Here it didn’t work out right away and on its own. A woman standing at the next machine came to the rescue, aged, rumpled and with a strong “alcoholic aroma”. Despite the early morning (it was six o’clock in the morning) and her clearly not the best condition, she very kindly showed how to replenish the balance of the travel card through the device. In general, responsiveness and goodwill are the hallmarks of Singaporeans. As we have seen many times, they are always ready to help you.

A little more about the metro: perfect cleanliness; trains often go (by the way, they are there without drivers and you can go and look through the windshield); the cars are clean and comfortable, the new ones even have heated seats; there are toilets at every station; the noise level from trains is low; there are many good shops in the city center between large junction stations in the crossings (not the same as in the Moscow metro, but really good ones).
